Note that a same node u can be mapped to several nodes. As a result of the mapping of its nodes, the gene tree G, extended here with losses induced by the mapping (‡), is embedded in S (here dashed lines represent edges of G, and plain lines those of S, grayed rectangular zones represent nodes of S).
